Kentucky Maple Syrup Day

Come to the farm to tour our sugar bush, see the evaporator in action, and learn all about the process of maple syrup production here in Kentucky.
“Kentucky maple syrup producers around the Bluegrass State will open their operations to the public on Saturday, February 1, for the inaugural Maple Syrup Day. Over twenty producers in the Kentucky Maple Syrup Association will be participating in the first time event, and they hope everyone will come out and learn more about how they are producing maple syrup.” -via the UK College of Agriculture, Food and Environment
This event is FREE to attend. We will have syrup available for purchase.

Shiitake Mushroom Log Inoculation Workshop
Saturday, March 14, 2020 10:00am-12:00pm
Limited to 15 participants
Learn how to inoculate logs and cultivate shiitake mushrooms. The logs will be pre-cut, but everything else will be done on site during this hands-on workshop. This does involve the use of power tools, hot wax, and generators and is not recommended for young children. The cost is $30 per person and includes one medium-sized log for you to take home. All minors must be accompanied by a guardian, and each participant must sign a waiver prior to participation.

Apple Tree Grafting Workshop
Saturday, March 21, 2020 10:00am-12:00pm
Limited to 20 participants
Learn how to graft apple trees using a variety of methods, and learn about the cultivation of different varieties of apples, including many antique varieties. This is a hands-on workshop and all materials needed for grafting are provided. The cost is $25 per person and includes your grafted tree to take home. All minors must be accompanied by a guardian, and each participant must sign a waiver prior to participation. (Extra trees can be purchased at $10 each for workshop participants.)

Come hike with us around the farm and learn about all the edible goodies the forest offers us in spring. Learn to identify, sustainably harvest, and eat plants from the woods. Channing will use his years of experience in gathering, preparing, and eating wild foods as he leads this foraging hike. Be prepared to hike, have fun, and learn a lot! Samplings of prepared foraged foods will be offered at the end. The cost is $15 per person or $25 per family. All minors must be accompanied by a guardian, and each participant must sign a waiver prior to participation.

Summer Foraging Workshop and Hike
Saturday, July 18, 2020 9:00am-11:00am
Limited to 20 participants
We will venture into the woods to look for all the yummy things the forest offers in late summer with an emphasis on wild mushrooms. Channing will use his years of experience in gathering, preparing, and eating wild foods as he leads this foraging hike. Samplings of prepared foraged foods will be offered at the end. Pawpaw Foraging & Cultivation Workshop and Hike

Workshop is limited to 20 participants
Come learn all about North America’s largest native fruit! What are they? How do I locate and identify them? What do they taste like? Learn about their history and their current rise in popularity, and sample a little for yourself. Take a walk in the woods to see them growing in their natural habitat, learn about agriculture’s newest obsession, and see how farmers are cultivating the pawpaw as you tour our pawpaw grove. Samplings of pawpaws will be offered. The cost is $15 per person or $25 per family. All minors must be accompanied by a guardian, and each participant must sign a waiver prior to participation.
